Sorry to be a pain, but the link to the Keith green 'This is my commandment' song is broken because Yahoo got rid of geocities. Figure it's useful to know about broken links if you're planning a site rebuild. Thanks for seven years of helping enhance the worship I lead.

Thanks - my link checking software only tells me when a link just doesn't work, not when it leads somewhere unhelpful... ! Always good to know about broken links! :-)

I think the 1 John passage is developing an extra idea this week, which would be worth expressing in its own summary. The Good News Translation heads it "Our Victory over the World". So, even if we're wary of 'triumphalism' as such, there's a call to action (obeying commands) and a call to faith-based confidence. One item my minister suggested is TiS 609 ("May the mind of Christ my Saviour ... I triumph only through his power ... self denying, this is victory.") Another is TiS 459 ("In Christ there is no east or west" ... "his service is the golden cord" ... "who serves my Father as his child is surely kin to me"). For those reluctant to use "conquer the world" language, we have instead "one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth". Old-school hymns, but I'm sure there'd be more in other genres to fit this focus on the text.
